Event Details

The reverberant sanctuary at St Thomas will embrace the music of our final concert, featuring the great Mass for 5 Voices by William Byrd, the full-bodied motets of Brahms, scintillating music from Philip Glass and a reprise of the “Gloria” movement from Jan Sandstrom’s mass, which wowed audiences last year. A fitting and sonorous climax to a season of musical contrasts.  (Please note that some publicity materials list the concert at 7:30 pm, but the correct time is 8:00 pm.)

The Vocal Arts Ensemble

Since its founding in 1992, the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Ann Arbor (VAE) has maintained a tradition of excellence in the performance of choral music. Begun as a small chamber group devoted to a cappella singing, VAE now comprises some 28 singers in one of the premier choral ensembles in the region.  VAE has a highly varied repertoire, ranging from Josquin to jazz, and collaborates with local artists such as People Dancing and the Ann Arbor Symphony, with which VAE has repeatedly appeared.  VAE has commissioned several original choral works, including “Lady Liberty” by William Bolcom, premiered in May 2009
